Looking ahead at QBS

  • Monday the 10th of October to Friday the 14th of October – Half Term Holiday
  • Monday the 17th of October – ESF continuous professional development day for staff (no school for students)
  • Tuesday the 18th of October – School resumes for all students
  • Wednesday the 19th of October to Friday the 21st of October – Year 5 Camp

I write this week’s enews at Outward Bound where I finished the week with the Year 6 students. The weather has been great for camp and even though there was some rainfall on the final night, the students were able to complete the full Outward Bound course. The Year 6 students have enjoyed their final primary school camp. I am yet to fully master the art of dormitory sleeping on camp and do my very best to improve year on year!

This week the Year 6 students were involved in orienteering, climbing low ropes, hiking, building canoes, dragon boat paddling, tunnel crawling, jetty jumping and prepping equipment for the overnight camp in the country park. Again the range of experiences at Outward Bound has been very good for the age group. It really has been a week where the Year 6 students were encouraged to ‘dig deep and find their grit’. I have been both proud and delighted to see their growing maturity and independence. They have been fine ambassadors for QBS. One of my favourite aspects of this particular camp would be the look of complete satisfaction on the faces of students when they overcome a challenge (big or small).

I expect the students (and staff) will return home on Friday with plenty of stories to share after such an active and adventurous week. Thank you to all staff for their diligence, care and thoughtfulness this week. It has been another successful trip to Outward Bound for QBS Year 6 students.

It has been a busy and productive half term at QBS which has finished with a great class assembly by 5L and 5G. Staff and students at QBS have worked very hard to start the learning year well. I thank all parents for their collaborative support and partnership. Looking back, Term 1 has started positively for our students. I look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday the 18th of October when school resumes.

Enjoy the time with your children over the coming week.

Regards,
MinaD2

Introducing Your Jobs to Students

Can you help? Year One are looking for willing people in the community to come in to present and be interviewed about their job roles. The purpose is to better understand the roles and responsibilities in their wider community. Job roles we are looking for include:

Doctor, builder, plumber, fireman, police officer, vet, nurse, shop assistant, restaurant manager, domestic helper, chef, waiter.

If you have any family friends who you know would be interested and willing please put them in contact with us. This will be a very short time commitment and can be worked around your schedules. In some cases we can also provide translators if your friends or family feel that their English is not good enough.

Please contact any of the Year 1 teachers if you are able to help.

Mrs Stephanie GILCHRIST
Year 1 Leader

Camp Update for Year 4 and 5

Luggage on Buses

The school buses can become very cramped with the children’s luggage on the morning of camp. Whilst it is possible to accommodate luggage that can be placed at the student’s feet, bags or cases larger than this cannot be transported safely. Particularly affected bus routes are: 6,8,9,10 and 11.

If alternative travel arrangements can be arranged on Wednesday morning, this would be greatly appreciated.

Gateway Maintenance

The Gateway will be out of service from 8pm Friday Oct 7th – 9am Sunday Oct 9th for maintenance.
