Key dates for next week

  • Thursday the 9th of March – Year 2 Mandarin Parent Teacher Consultations

It was good to see parents in school this week for the parent teacher consultations. We look forward to welcoming parents again in the coming weeks. Thank you for being part of this important process in your child’s learning. Please be reminded that at QBS we welcome contact from parents at any time. Your child’s ongoing learning progress and well-being at school are the priority of staff. At QBS the door is always open to parents so do not hesitate to contact staff about any aspect of school life for your child.

Thank you to the QBS PTA for the Hotdog Day this week. It seemed to be popular with students and I am sure they will look forward to more of these in future.

I enjoyed a few games of rugby on Friday at the CIS pitch during the annual tournament. QBS students represented our school very well and tried their best in all games. I was proud of their team effort and enthusiasm during the games. Thank you to Mr Mason, Mr Ogilvie and Mr Kade for their coaching, effort and guidance with our QBS rugby students.

Li Ha

The students showed great care and respect for Ah Fun this week. As you know Ah Fun retired this week after 20 years of outstanding service to QBS. The students told me many stories this week about how they had personally thanked Ah Fun and wished her all the best for the future. I was proud of the respect and appreciation expressed to Ah Fun by so many students. We have welcomed Li Ha to the QBS amah team.

Regards,

QBS Book Week 13th-17th March

Theme: Stories and poems from around the world

We are really excited about the QBS Book Week coming up. On Monday the 13th March we will kick start the week with a Book Character Dress Up Day. This is an opportunity for the children to dress as their favourite book character for the day. We ask that the children bring a donation of $10 that will go towards new books for the Indochina Starfish Foundation, a charity supported by ESF, based in Cambodia.

The QBS Student Voice group are organising a book drive for second hand picture books. They are asking for one good quality, second hand, picture book from each QBS family. These books will be distributed in the local community. These will be collected on Monday13th March.

There will be all kinds of activities going on around the school. One of those activities is our Throne of Books. This is a Throne in which people sit and read stories to the children throughout the week. If you are keen to read a story in your mother tongue, to your child’s class, please contact Anna Trunkfield or your child’s teacher to arrange a time to do that.

Happy Reading!

Immunisations

The immunisations forms for DPTP have been sent out for Year 1 students. Please send in the consent form (original records) or refusal form by the 10th of March. No forms will be accepted after this date. The immunisations will be held on Monday 27th of March.

Diane Frankenstein Reading Workshop

QBS parents and carers are invited to Chinese International School for a high quality workshop on reading with your child, with Diane Frankenstein. See the brief description of the presentation below. Please help us to know numbers, by filling out this Google Form so we may pass this on to our host, Jeffrey Comer, at CIS

Date: Tuesday 14th March 2017
Time: 18.30 – 20.30
Venue: Chinese International School, Hong Kong Auditorium
Topic: Conversational Reading

Overview of the Workshop

Your child loves books and stories. They are learning how to read and probably reading independently.

Learn the art of ‘conversational reading’ from the lady who coined the phrase herself, Diane Frankenstein.

Conversational Reading follows a simple equation: Read a Book, Ask a Question, Start a Conversation

In our hectic schedules and media saturated world, reading with our children and talking with them about what matters, is more important than ever before.

Books help to jump start conversations that are important to children.

Topics covered include: self-esteem, bullying, friendship, boasting and being true to yourself.

As QBS will be holding their book week during this week, this will be a great addition for parents to the programme of events at school.

Change of bus travel arrangement:

We therefore request your cooperation to notify us before 12:30pm of the day for change in travel arrangement of your child. This procedure is imperative and in the best interest and safety of your child. (Parents are requested to inform PTA via email at pta@qbs.edu.hk as well as copying the message to the Class Teacher/School before 12:30pm.)
