Key dates for next week

  • Wednesday the 10th May – PTA Disco (Year 1 to Year 4)

I was proud of QBS students this week. It was a somewhat disrupted week due to public holidays and, even though this was the case, the students were very settled across the school. Learning routines continued as normal for everyone. Well done QBS students.

It was good to welcome Year 1 parents into school for their Mandarin Parent Teacher Consultation. It is hoped this revised model of consultations improves parental access to the Mandarin Team.

5Y and 5A shared a really enjoyable class assembly to end the week. Thank you to the students for their enthusiasm and entertaining assembly. The students certainly made learning about light and sound fun.

This week one of the 5 Semi Finals for the Hong Kong Battle of the Books tournaments was held at QBS. There were 5 teams competing in our hall and QBS were up against Kennedy School, Canadian International, French International and Victoria Shanghai Academy. Each team completed four rounds of twelve questions based on the twenty competition books. It was extremely tense and we are very proud to announce that the QBS team won and are going to the final in two weeks. Congratulations QBS! The battlers and their support team were fantastic.

Please note that Student Voice will hold a dress red, white and blue day next Friday the 12th of May to support a charity in Thailand. For further information from the students please read below.

I encourage parents to consider helping out at the QBS Grow Your Mind Day on the 28th of June. This is a positive event for our students later this term and will be facilitated by staff and parent volunteers. Please read the information below in this newsletter for details.

Please note that there have been date changes for the Year 5 and Year 6 Athletics Days and the Celebration of Learning Day. You will find these date changes in the key dates for Term 3 (immediately above).

Regards,
MinaD2

ESF Celebration of Dance – Under the Same Sky

Last Friday 15 children from Year 3 represented QBS at a dance celebration at Kowloon Junior School. The evening was a huge success and it was fantastic to see such a broad range of high quality dances from across ESF. The Year 3 children did QBS proud and danced with gusto and energy as a Tornado! Congratulations to these children: Ken, Kaitlyn, Andreas, Isaac, Arianna, Kotomi, Josh, Milla, Abby, Valerie, Ashley, Campbell, Giso, Marcus and Luke.

Charity News

The student voice have been looking at new links for our school and how they can help others around the world.

In consultation with West Island School, QBS have decided to lend their assistance to the Maekok River Village Project in Northern Thailand. This project relies mainly on volunteers and outside assistance to help in some way with most of the 38 schools in the area.

You can read more about the project in the following link:

Community Involvement

Currently, MRVR are building a special needs school called “Thomas House” and are in desperate need of equipment to help with their curriculum. This is where QBS student voice wish to help and to help buy some of these resources.

So next Friday 12th May, we will be holding a ‘Dress Casual Day.’

Children will be asked to come dressed in the colours of the Thai flag, either RED, WHITE or BLUE or a combination of all three. (If your child has PE on this day, please ensure they are appropriately dressed for lessons)

Each child will be asked to bring in $10 for the occasion. Of course some families kindly donate more and this is always welcome.

Term 3 After School Activities & Change of Bus Travel Arrangement

Unfortunately we still have many parents who do not inform the PTA if their child/ren have after school activities or a change in afternoon travel arrangements on the buses. The above results in a delay in departure of the buses from school, while the PTA staff, principals, teachers and staff of the school is looking for the missing students.

We therefore request your cooperation to notify us before 12:30pm on a normal school day, and 10:00am on an early school closure day, for change in travel arrangement of your child. This procedure is imperative and in the best interest and safety of your child.

(Parents are requested to inform PTA via email at pta@qbs.edu.hk as well as copying the message to the class teacher/school before 12:30pm.)
