Dragon Days Pantomime

We have all enjoyed the Dragon Days pantomime this week. There were 130 students from drama, orchestra, rock band and dance clubs involved in this production. The students did an outstanding job in their various performances and entertained students, visitors and parents. Thank you to Ms Hill for her continued leadership of the Expressive Arts at QBS and the boundless energy she puts into her role. Special thanks to all staff and parents for their involvement and support in this year’s QBS Christmas Panto.

Farewell to QBS Staff

Ms Amy Liu will leave QBS to take up a teaching position in Guangzhou. Ms Liu has been a member of the Mandarin Team and worked as an Education Assistant. She will be missed by colleagues. Everyone at QBS wishes Ms Liu success in her new job and teaching career.

Mrs Grant will leave QBS after three successful years teaching in Year 5 and Year 2. Mrs Grant and her family are relocating back to Sydney. Mrs Grant is a highly professional and respected teacher at QBS. She will be missed by all. We are grateful to Mrs Grant for the wonderful job she has done in 2G this term. Her dedication, ability and professionalism shone through during her contributions to the Year 2 team and in her teaching of 2G. I would like to extend my very best wishes to Mrs Grant for the future and thank her for the valuable contribution she has made to our students and the school community – Hong Kong’s loss is Australia’s gain.

It has been another busy, productive and positive term at QBS. It is a privilege for me to lead a school with such professional and hard working staff, supportive and interested parents and wonderful students. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday the 8th of January 2018.

Regards,

MinaD2

Start of School Day – attendance register and late arrival

In Term 2 the school’s front gate will be closed at 8.15am daily when the bell rings. Any students arriving after the school gate has been closed at 8.15am will be required to register their attendance at Reception on the ground floor. These students will be marked in the Gateway attendance register as late. All teachers take the attendance register at 8.15am daily and students are required to be in the classroom for this so arrival before the school bell is expected.

Cooperation is sought by all parents to have their child at school before the 8.15am bell rings to ensure a smooth start to their learning each day.

West Morninghope Trip

The Student Voice wish to thank all of the kind donations for the children of West Morninghope School.

Each year, Quarry Bay School donate different presents to children who are less fortunate than us. The connection has been going for a very long time and we are so happy to continue such a worthwhile tradition. This year we were lucky enough to have Ms Ma joining Mrs Guest & Mr Ogilvie on the trip.

The year 5 and year 6 student voice representatives went on Wednesday to visit the school and took all of the presents that our community had donated. The day was so much fun for all involved. Please click here to enjoy a feeling of the festive fun.

Thank you again for kind support and generous offers.

Computer Purchases By Parents

We have had a number of enquiries from parents about purchasing computers for their children. At school we are using Chromebooks from Y1-Y6. However, as most of our resources are now Internet/Cloud based, the platform OS is not as important as having a good Internet connection with a choice of browsers such as Google Chrome and Firefox. These are free on all platforms.

Chromebooks are not currently available for retail sale in Hong Kong. However, HP are running a limited offer for ESF parents. Please see this link for the order form

As an ESF parent you can also obtain discounted prices on Apple products at https://www.eduoffer.com/esf/

Please note that many secondary schools including South Island School require students to purchase a specific laptop from a school appointed vendor at the start of Year 7. Parents should consider this before purchasing.

Parents should apply and make enquiries directly to companies above.
