Positive Education Workshop for Parents

Parents are invited to attend a workshop about Positive Education on Thursday the 17th of November from 6.00 – 6.40pm. This workshop will be a valuable opportunity for parents to learn more about how to support their child’s emotional and social well-being. This aspect of development is very important for all children. At QBS staff are increasingly using strategies to promote awareness of character strengths and why they are important in our lives. Positive Education strategies equip students with life skills to assist them to develop into happy, confident and resilient young people. It is a skill set which is becoming more and more important in a rapidly changing world. The workshop will be followed by a short PTA AGM. Please consider this workshop and sign up by clicking here.

Uniform

The weather has turned cooler this week. All students must be wearing proper winter uniform by the 1st of December. Uniform standards at QBS are high. Please be reminded that the QBS uniform is to be worn properly during winter. Long-sleeved t-shirts under short-sleeved QBS shirts and non QBS jackets, fleeces or sweaters are not permitted. The PTA shop has the full range of proper winter uniform available. All of these uniform items keep children warm during the colder months. Your cooperation and support is appreciated as we transition into the winter uniform.

Another Busy Week of Learning

I have seen some excellent lessons around school during the week in all areas of the curriculum. Having the privilege of seeing students busy at work and making learning progress across Years 1 to 6 is the best part of my job. Students have been very engaged in their learning and very confidently explaining what they are learning and why. Teachers have commenced Interim Reports and these will be published for parents on Gateway at 12.00pm on Friday the 9th of December.

Crafting Table at the Christmas Fayre

Calling all crafters!
This year we are trialling a Crafter’s Table at the Christmas Fayre.

This is an opportunity for those in our QBS community who enjoy crafting (knitting/sewing/crochet/painting/making craft items etc.) to sell their work. The rules for this table are:

  • No businesses.
  • Crafters using the table make a donation of $100- this money will be part of the proceeds from the Christmas Fayre that is usually donated to charity.
  • The table will be shared with other crafters.
  • Items are hand made, not bought.

If you are interested in this venture, please email Sue Yee on sue.yee@qbs.edu.hk

Fifth Disease

We have recently had a few cases of Erythema Infectiosum (Fifth Disease, Slapped Cheek) reported in different year groups.

Fifth Disease is a mildly contagious viral illness. It usually occurs in small outbreaks in children over the age of two. The most distinctive symptom of the disease is red rash on both cheeks.

Typical incubation is 4 to 14 days after which the following symptoms appear:

  • Bright red cheeks, contrasting with a pale area around the mouth.
  • Fever.
  • A rash develops 1 to 4 days after the cheeks become red. The rash appears on the arms and legs and occasionally on the trunk. It is a blotchy or lace-like rash and can last 7 to 10 days.
  • Joint pain.

Please take your child immediately to your family doctor if you notice any of these symptoms. Do not send your child to school. If the doctor confirms that your child has the illness, please inform the school.

Please note that pregnant women should minimise contact with this illness during the first trimester. If this impacts on a family member, we recommend advice from a medical practitioner.
