Key dates for next week

  • Monday the 24th April – QBS (academic and sports) Clubs / Private and ESF Ed Services Clubs for Term 3 start
  • Tuesday the 25th April – Y5 & 6 Athletics Day
  • Wednesday the 26th April – Year 6 Vaccinations

Welcome back to our final term of the school year. I am not really sure where the time has gone this academic year and cannot believe we are almost at the end of April already. Students have been very settled and focussed this week. I have been quite proud of their attitudes to learning tasks when I have seen them at work in the classrooms and around school.

In this final term of the year it is very important that students continue to give their best, strive for improvement and enjoy each day. Families can support this by ensuring that families read the weekly newsletter, email messages and encourage a good night’s sleep for their child/ren.

Gateway

Please ensure your family mailing address is current as the end of year report will be mailed to the address recorded in the Gateway. You can check you mailing address by logging into Gateway and verifying Mailing Address under the Family Information section.

Uniform

Please be reminded that students are to wear summer uniform to school. Uniform expectations are very high at QBS and students are expected to be dressed properly in their uniform. Please click here to view QBS uniform guidelines. All students must have a QBS hat. There is a ‘no hat, no play’ rule in the playground so students need to wear a hat daily. Personal jewellery is not to be worn to school. Please support this expectation as such items are not part of the uniform. Students may wear a watch.

Wet Weather Season

We are entering the wet season so please be mindful that if weather systems impact on school the SMS communications will be activated. Whilst we make every effort to promptly SMS families about school closures, weather warnings can be issued at short notice and you are encouraged to monitor Hong Kong Government websites for information when these situations arise.

The key dates for Term 3 are included in the newsletter for your reference. It will be a busy term ahead and we hope this information assists you. I look forward to a successful term ahead for everyone at QBS. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns about your child’s school life at QBS.

Regards,
MinaD2

New Physical Education Units for Term 3

In term 3 all year groups will begin a movement composition unit in which students learn about the human body’s capacity for movement through travelling, balancing, rolling, jumping and landing actions.

Please can you ensure that your child ties their hair up with a soft hair tie, which will ensure safety when performing certain movements.

Australian Rules Football

HK Auskick provides the introductory Australian Rules Football program in HK for boys and girls from 4 to 14 years old, catering to all skill levels and highly compatible with any football background or passion. In conjunction, Hong Kong Junior AFL provides further training, development and the opportunity to play games in age groups from U8 to U15.

The programs makes learning to play the team game of Aussie Rules fun, safe and easy for kids. Through weekly coaching sessions the players will learn the skills of the game in an exciting, social and safe environment. The 2017 season in Hong Kong commences on the weekend of 29/30 April and runs until early September, making it a perfect off-season fit with other football codes. A modified program is conducted across most of July to cater for summer holidays. Sessions are hosted by 5 Clubs based in 4 main locations across Hong Kong: Kowloon (and Sai Kung), Lantau Island (DB), Sandy Bay (Pok Fu Lam) and Happy Valley.

In 2017 our players of all ages will also have the opportunity to participate in a touring party that will travel to Shanghai on the weekend of the inaugural AFL main season game on 14 May between Port Adelaide and Gold Coast. Players will have the opportunity to participate in football events on against other travelling clubs and on the ground of the main game. We are also in the final stages of confirming our participation in an AFL game in Melbourne during the HK summer holidays, stay tuned for details.
