Emergency contact details in Gateway

Please ensure your family contact details (i.e., priority contact person, mobile phone numbers, address) are accurate in the Gateway. In the event of an emergency we need to be able to contact parents. Recently staff have experienced some instances where mobile phone numbers and priority contact details have not been current. If there have been changes in your contact details thank you for attending to this request promptly.

Council of International Schools (CIS) Visit

QBS has full accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS). Next week we will host two visitors from CIS because our school is having what is called a CIS Preliminary Evaluation Visit. Mr Terry Hamilton (Principal of Hanoi International School) and Mrs Helena Sobulis (School Support and Evaluation Officer, CIS) will spend four days in school assessing the work we are doing against the CIS standards. These standards are related to aspects such as teaching, learning, curriculum, partnerships, facilities, health, safety and finance. Most importantly the visitors will look for evidence of our school’s vision, mission and guiding statements in the daily work we do with the students in our care. Please click here to view the QBS Vision, mission and our teaching and learning principles. The QBS Learning and Teaching Principles are the school’s guiding statements and help us to achieve our goals. Following the visit from CIS next week the school will begin an eighteen month self-study process based upon the recommendations from the preliminary visit.

Well done to all of our Year 1 students. They did a wonderful job in their performance of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and also sharing their written innovations on the story with parents. Next week we look forward to welcoming parents into school for the Year 5 and Year 6 Athletics Day and Year 2 Art Gallery events.

We hope you enjoy your child’s portfolio which will come home today. Please click here to read the email sent to all parents about the portfolios.

We have students performing at the ESF 50th Family Carnival on Saturday which is being held at KGV. I look forward to seeing the QBS students perform at this event.

Regards,
MinaD2

Basketball Team

The QBS basketball team played in their second inter-school tournament tournament at Kowloon Junior School last week. The team stepped up from their experience the week before to finish 2nd in their group, but then narrowly missed out on the semi-finals after a close encounter with Beacon Hill School. Congratulations to the team and a special mention to Nicolas (6M) who was awarded a place in the All Star Team.

Pyjama Day

Quarry Bay School, get your comfiest pyjamas at the ready and take action!

By popular demand of the QBS students, Student Voice have organised a Pyjama Day on Thursday 29th March! The Student Voice have decided to take global action with this project and continue to support the Maekok River Village Project in Northern Thailand. We will be raising money for the special needs school, Thomas House, who is in desperate need of equipment and resources to give the students there a better education.

We will be asking all children who dress in pyjamas to bring along a minimum donation of $10. Of course, you may donate more if you wish.

More details about PJ Day will be shared closer to the event.

Things to remember:

  • Bring appropriate shoes for the playground (no slippers outside)
  • Wear appropriate pyjamas for school
  • Bring a cuddly toy if you wish
  • Wear a jacket or jumper over your pyjamas if it is cold

We hope you enjoy it!

Thank you.

Supply Educational Assistants

As you will know, our educational assistants provide invaluable support to students and teachers across the school. They support students in their learning, as well as supervising students at break and lunch times as well as assisting with arrival and dismissal.

From time to time, we need to cover these colleagues’ duties due to illness or other reasons. We have a small number of people, often parents, who step in at these times. We are currently looking for any parents who may be interested in taking on this role from time to time. If you are interested in working as a supply EA at QBS please contact me via email – michael.dewey@qbs.edu.hk
