QBS Aquathon and Cricket Teams

Students representing QBS in the aquathon and cricket teams competed well again this week in competitions. The students’ commitment to their sport during a rather hot time is to be commended. I am looking forward to the aquathon at KGV in a couple of weeks time so that I can support our students.

Year 1 Familiarisation

We were delighted to welcome the new Year 1 students into school this week for the familiarisation visit. These young children will join the QBS community in August. Many of the new Year 1s joining QBS in August are siblings. The Year 5 students were great ambassadors during the familiarisation visit and offered help to parents and children. A small group of Year 1 students shared some advice and tips for parents so that they can support their child transition into primary school. The Year 1 students gave spontaneous speeches in the hall about why QBS is a great school and how parents can help their child be ready for Year 1. The Year 1 speeches were very articulate and impressed the adults listening. Staff were proud of the Year 1 and Year 5 students involved in the familiarisation visit. They were authentic student leaders. We look forward to seeing all of our new Year 1s again in August.

Preparing for the 2018/2019 Academic Year

Our Year 6 students went on their final secondary school transition visit today. The majority of QBS students move to SIS for Year 7. It is an exciting time for the Year 6 students as they prepare for secondary school.

QBS staff recognise that the end of a school year transition may also mean some students feel apprehensive. June may be a time of year when the upcoming year level and class groupings become more of a focus for students. All current Year 2 and Year 4 classes will be mixed for the next academic year. All current Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5 classes promote to the next year level without being mixed. If your child is feeling apprehensive, I encourage parents to talk about things and reassure him or her that it is normal to feel this way when things are changing. Staff will be supporting students in the coming weeks as transition discussions begin at school. If you have any concerns about your child’s transition into the next academic year, please contact the class teacher.

On Tuesday the 12th of June all Year 1 to 5 students will meet their new class teacher. Parents will be informed via email about new class teacher arrangements on the same day.

QBS Green Team ‘Zero Plastic Break & Lunch Day’

Just a further reminder, that in support of the CNN’s ‘Global Zero Plastic’ initiative, on Friday 8th. June, we are encouraging all of the children at QBS to avoid bringing ‘single use plastics’ for their snack at break time, and their lunch, on that day. (It is fine to bring ‘multiple use’ plastic containers).

This could also be an opportunity to encourage children to bring in a healthy snack, rather than crisps and chips, which tend to come in ‘one use’ plastic bags.

The Green Team will be speaking to all of the students about the initiative, in next Friday’s Phase Assemblies.

Information regarding the damage caused by plastics, will be posted on Qoodle next week.
