2018/2019 QBS/ESF Calendar

The QBS/ESF calendar for the 2018/2019 school year can be viewed here. Please plan family holidays and trips outside of school term time.

Staffing Change

Sadly we will farewell Ah Fong this week. Ah Fong is a member of the amah team. She is respected by staff and students for her hard work, helpful attitude and happiness. Ah Fong has worked at QBS for nine years and her loyal service to our community has been greatly appreciated.

Mrs Alison Hanna will leave QBS this week. Mrs Hanna has been working as an Education Assistant in Year 6 this academic year. She has been an asset to Year 6 and will be missed by staff and students. Mrs Hanna has also been a QBS parent for many years and supported the school in many different ways.

QBS School Council

I would like to thank Rory Macfarlane for his contribution to the QBS School Council in recent years. Rory has been the parent representative on the school council. He has been generous with his time and supported the continued improvement of the school. Thank you Rory.

Thank You

It has been a tremendously busy, productive and successful year at QBS. I am proud to be part of the community. It is a privilege to be the Principal of Quarry Bay School and work with your wonderful children. I would like to extend my best wishes to all staff and students leaving QBS.

I hope everyone has a relaxing and restful summer holiday break. I plan to spend time with my daughters and husband on the farm and at the beach in Australia.

Have a lovely summer holiday QBS!

Regards,
MinaD2

Rock Band Concert Raised Fund for Charity

The Rock Band wants to say a very big thank you for all of your support!

Yesterday was the first ever Rock Band concert in Quarry Bay School. The upper and lower school students were a fantastic audience, moving to the music and even singing along! A big well done to all of the performers. Very soon Julian (drummer), Matthew (guitarist), Britney and Felix (singers) will be moving on to secondary school. Maxi (guitarist) and Maxwell (pianist) will still be with us and we hope to present more of our music to you.

Today, we raised a total of $3420 for the schools in Nepal. The donation will definitely bring smiles to the faces of the children in Nepal, helping the people of Mr Um’s country. We will be using the money to purchase some resources for the schools which we will deliver during the mid-term break in Term 1 2018/19.

Thanks again and have a wonderful summer!

The Hong Kong National Team have a very important fixture this weekend at HKFC in their bid to qualify for the 2019 World Cup in Japan next year. Please see the video about the match and we hope to see lots of our students supporting them.

Year 6 Refugee Assembly

Year 6 teachers and students held an assembly on Wednesday 20th June, in order to present cheques to several NGOs, who represent Refugees in Hong Kong. During the recent Year 6 Exhibition, our students raised an amazing HK$43,000 plus, for these charities.

In order to coincide with World Refugee Day, we invited representatives of the charities to participate in our assembly, and to receive the donations.

The charities who have benefited from our fantastic action are: Branches of Hope, Christian Action, Refugeek, Free to Run, and The Crossroads Foundation. (The organisation ‘We Are Here’ also participated, but are unable to accept donations).

Congratulations to our Year 6 students in particular, and to the school as a whole, for their tremendous support throughout the Exhibition process.

Charity

QBS raised $5,846.10 in the 2nd hand uniforms selling throughout this academic year. This donation will be given to one of our on going charities that QBS works with. THANKS again!

Message from Nurse Delia

Dear QBS students, parents and staff,

I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU for all the wonderful 15 years at QBS. I have seen so many students grow up and it makes me proud to have been a part of their lives. I will miss QBS and I wish everyone all the best

Love, Nurse Delia

Fortnite Computer Game

There has been some concern expressed in the media recently about the latest computer game to become popular with Hong Kong students. Please find linked here a parents guide to Fortnite which has been produced by Kevin Tibble (ESF Learning Technologies Advisor). Hopefully the guide will be of use to parents giving a better understanding of what Fortnite is, and the main issues to be aware of before deciding whether to allow your child to play.

Volunteering Opportunity

QBS Students,

If you will be in Hong Kong over the summer, there is an exciting opportunity to take action available at Branches of Hope in Wan Chai. You may well have heard about Branches of Hope (formerly the Vine Centre) from the amazing work Year 6 presented during the Exhibition.

To support the education of refugee children, and to give them an opportunity to make friends, Branches of Hope runs a Summer School and would love you to join them. There will be a range of fun activities for you to take part in. Simply by coming along, you will be helping children to feel welcome. If you are interested, please contact Branches of Hope by emailing info@branchesofhope.org.hk or calling +852 3527 6088.

If you can make it, let us know. We love to see students taking action!
