Key dates for Term 1

Please click here

Key dates for the first week back from the break:

  • Wednesday the 24th of October to Friday the 26th of October – Year 5 Camp
  • Friday the 26th of October – Class Assembly (4C/4G) for parents (To view the Class Assembly rota, please click here)

What an eventful half term it has been! Despite challenging events such as the recent typhoon, we have enjoyed a great start to the school year, and are now all looking forward to the mid-term holiday.

Looking back, we’ve had many happy moments. Students have thrown themselves into their learning with great enthusiasm, and the atmosphere around school has been purposeful. We have enjoyed celebrating together at events such as the Lantern Walk, and enjoyed watching our many talented students perform at the QBS Talent Show.

This week, Year 6 students have enjoyed their time at Outward Bound camp in Sai Kung. The children have risen to many exciting challenges, including camping and kayaking, hiking and raft building. We are looking forward to seeing them return to school later today. On Wednesday, we had a successful Chinese information evening. Thank you to the Chinese team for their very professional presentation. This was an enjoyable event, and we thank all parents who were able to attend.

Thank you parents for your ongoing support at the various different events this half term. We value our school community, and appreciate your contribution. We hope that our recent move across to our facebook platform has assisted parents in accessing school life. Looking forward, we are exploring new ways of communicating with the community, and hope this will further strengthen our partnership.

We hope everyone is able to enjoy a restful and relaxing week next week, and we look forward to seeing the students back at school on Monday 22nd October.

Chinese Information Evening

On Wednesday (10th October) our Chinese teachers gave an insightful and valuable presentation about the teaching of Mandarin at QBS. An initial information session provided details about the following areas:

  • how Chinese is taught and learnt
  • how the language is integrated into the curriculum
  • how Chinese culture is celebrated through out the school year

Following this, two workshops focusing on the teaching of non-native and near-native Chinese were shared. As ever, the event was extremely well received and supported by parents and carers.

The Chinese teachers who presented were: Katherine Ong, Millie Chan, Thomas Yao, Steve Yu, Eliza Chan

A copy of the slides from the initial information session can be accessed via this link.

Korean Mother tongue group at QBS

“The IB has a policy of mother tongue entitlement that promotes respect for the literary heritage of a students’ home language and provides an opportunity for the students to continue to develop oral and writing skills in their mothers tongue while studying in a different language of instruction.” In line with Mother Tongue entitlement and the IB philosophy, we are delighted to announce that Korean mothers resume ‘Parent-run Mother Tongue Class’ at QBS. Three demonstration classes by an experienced Primary Korean teacher are scheduled on the first day of the classes as follows:
