Transition for Year 1s and Year 6s

We welcomed our new Year 1s into QBS this week as part of their transition from kindergarten to primary school. There are many QBS siblings joining our community in August along with new families. We are happy to welcome everyone to QBS.

This week the Year 6s spent a day at South Island School as part of their transition and I have received very positive feedback from secondary colleagues about our QBS students. With little more than one month before they leave QBS, it was heartening to hear they conducted themselves so well during the transition visits.

Learning

There have seen many varied and interesting learning experiences going on around QBS this week. My favourite moments of the day are when I see the QBS students involved in their learning and they enthusiastically tell me why they are doing certain tasks. The distance travelled in learning is pleasing. It is always a privilege to see the improvements QBS students make with their teachers.

Please be aware of the QBS PTA’s initiative coming up which encourages the community to appreciate the continuous work of teachers in supporting student learning. Details are included in this newsletter.

Regards,

QBS vs Kennedy Aquathon

Last Friday we had a group of students who participated in an Aquathon event at West Island School. This was the first race of the term and all the children took on the challenge of a 250m swim and 1km run with determination.

You can see a photo of our students and Kennedy school at the finish line below.

Island School Cricket Qualifiers

On Wednesday we had 9 boys participate in the Island Schools Cricket Qualifiers. The boys were on top form with ball and bat, and recorded three straight wins, which qualified them for the final. Unfortunately they lost out to Kennedy in the final game, but their fantastic performance has qualified them for the Cup competition in the Hong Kong finals next Friday.

SUGAR: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly!

Healthy Eating Workshop: Part 3

Hidden sugars find their way into so many of the foods that our children eat. With childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes and other related diseases a real concern for our children and the clear association between increased sugar intake to risk factors for overall health, it is our responsibility to keep added sugars to a minimum in our children’s diet.

Come along to this informal talk on how to keep our children’s food sweet enough without the unnecessary added sugars!

A presentation by Janie Grant for all QBS parents and carers on Thursday 4th June from 11 to 12. Please come along to the amphitheatre in the Learning Centre.

Textile Arts at QBS

As you may have noticed at QBS, there is always a lot of art included in our daily routines. This includes performance arts and visual arts. Here is a little request: if you have any unwanted wool (yarn), embroidery threads, buttons, sequins, ribbons, knitting needles, crochet hooks etc  at home which you would be happy to donate to school, please send them in to Ms Abidi. They can then be used and enjoyed by all of our students.
