Absence Information

REPORTING STUDENT ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL

Regular attendance at school is important for a student’s learning progress and success. At QBS all student absences are recorded in Gateway and attendance is monitored by staff. If a child is absent send one email communication to a central address (absences@qbs.edu.hk) and include a set list of staff recipients. The details are as follows:

Send one email before 7.45am on the first day of the student’s absenceParent to send one email to the following recipients:

  1. absences@qbs.edu.hk
  2. The student’s class teacher
  3. If it is a Y1-3 student:
    sue.yee@qbs.edu.hk or
    If it is a Y4-6 student:
    michael.dewey@qbs.edu.hk
  4. If your child takes the school
    Bus you must also email:
    schoolbus@qbs.edu.hk
Detail the reason for the absence

Reminders:

Please send through a doctor’s certificate if the absence will be for three or more days

If the length of absence is not known on the first day, please email a doctor’s certificate as soon as it is known that the student will be absent for three or more days.

The certificate needs to be sent to:

  1. absences@qbs.edu.hk
  2. The student’s class teacher
  3. If it is a Y1-3 student:
    sue.yee@qbs.edu.hk or
    If it is a Y4-6 student:
    michael.dewey@qbs.edu.hk

 

ALL OTHER ABSENCES FROM SCHOOL
(i.e., family holiday, early leave at end of term/school year, compassionate reason, extra curricular exams or performances, appointments or leaving during school time)

    If it is a Y4-6 student:

Detail the reason for the absence
Reminders:

  • Staff are understanding of urgent or unexpected events for families (eg bereavement, illness, accidents) which necessitate time away from school.
  • Student absences during term time for holidays or trips are discouraged at QBS.
  • Whilst extra curricular activities are valued at QBS, absences for these activities are discouraged during the school day.
  • The Principal considers all requests.
