Important reminders for parents:
- School photos continue on Monday. Details from here.
- Year 6 parents must complete their ESF Year 6 to Year 7 transfer no later than the 18th of September. Click here for more.
- Please watch for the ENotice (via an email) from QBS next week which will invite parents to voluntarily share an email address with other parents to improve social connections (ie play dates, birthday parties etc).
- Dress Casual Day by the QBS Student Voice next Friday the 25th of September – $10 donation for our charities.
QBS Cub Scouts Pack
QBS has a Cub Scouts Pack (26th Silver Jubilee District Cub Scout Pack) which meet regularly at school on Thursday evenings. The QBS Pack is comprised of 30 Cub Scouts (Year 4 to Year 6 students, mainly from Year 4) and they seem to have a great deal of fun when they meet. They have five leaders and a dozen regular parent helpers.
The purpose of the Cub Scouts is to have fun, help others, be involved in the community and become more independent. They have a well structured three-year program and gain awards at the end of year year. Along the way they work on badges.
The Cub Scouts have a motto: “Be prepared”
Looking ahead they would like about six parents to become new leaders. There is also a hope to revive QBS Grasshoppers (Year 2 and Year 3) if parents are willing to become leaders.
They are a keen group of QBS students being well-supported by parent volunteers and I certainly hope they continue to thrive as the 26th Silver Jubilee District Cub Scout Pack.
QBS Lantern Walk
The QBS Lantern Walk will take place early this evening for students and families. The winners of the Lantern Competition will be announced at the event. Thank you to our PTA, the Mandarin teachers, Ms Hill and Ms Yee for working hard for this special celebration. I do hope those attending enjoy it. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend tonight because my daughter has the special job of being a Lion Dancer at her school’s Lantern Festival so I am going to be a proud ‘Mummy’ tonight with my family.
Regards,
Donations for the early years
Dear Parents,
We are very keen to develop our Early Years play ground by enhancing the area and making it into interesting zones for the children. We are planning to create a senses garden, an imaginative play zone, and small and large construction areas. We are asking for any donations of the following that we can use with the children
- Old CD’s
- Wind chimes
- Whisks
- Large washing up bowls
- Hats, old hand bags or shoes
- Beads or necklaces
- Small mechanical objects no longer in use (e.g., clocks, watches, toys)
- Wellington boots and raincoats
Please contact sue.yee@qbs.edu.hk for any further information or any other donations that we could use with our younger children.

Dress Casual Day Friday 25th September
Last we had a successful year supporting different groups in our community. We had three visits from our friends from an old people’s home, we worked with our refugee community on different projects from campaigns to making jewellery and we are also building a relationship with Li Sing Primary School in Tai Hang. We have organised a dress casual day on Friday 25th September to support our work. We suggest a donation of $10.
Book Drive for Li sing Primary School, Tai Hang
We would like to continue with our book drive for Li Sing primary School. Thank you for the books you have donated already. This has helped the school complete their library. We would now like to collect books to create class libraries. If you have any books you would like to donate for children and they are in good condition we have a collection box in the reception.

Our Gardening Programme at QBS
We believe all students should have a chance to connect to nature, appreciate plants, grow various plants, take care of them, harvest, cook and eat them too.
However, most of our students have no access to gardens at home. We would like to be able to provide an opportunity for them to develop a love of nature by introducing gardening at school.
I am keen to invite interested parents, who we will train so that you can easily work with and support our students, to help us on a regular basis (once per week). This would involve being assigned to various classes and taking small groups to the micro gardens and help to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers.
I will be inviting parents in after our half term holidays so that we can begin with our training programme. Please contact me directly if you would be keen to get involved and are available on a regular basis. No expertise needed, just enthusiasm!

Visit from Siu Sai Wan Centre for the Elderly
We welcomed our friends from Siu Sai Wan Centre for the Elderly this morning. The Y4 students who came along to help were very involved and enjoyed chatting with our friends. Teaching our elderly visitors to use iPads to create pictures was challenging but fun! Playing board games was very exciting as everyone knew how to play these games. Our Parent Volunteers were amazing and made the morning such a success. Thank you to all those parents who supported our school today.
If you would also like to be involved in our school daily life, supporting various events, please contact me directly: mona.abidi@qbs.edu.hk
South Island School Open Morning
South Island School will have an Open Morning from 8.30 am – 1.15 pm on Thursday 24th September.
Parents have a chance to observe lessons and talk to teachers and students about life at SIS.

So you think you can dance? Semi-final information
The last two weeks have seen the corridors full of children practising and lunchtimes have been busy with fun and enthusiastic auditions. It was great to see lots of children showing confidence and being risk-takers by auditioning. It was a hard decision to choose the children who got through to the semi-finals.
The semi-finals will take place next week Tuesday-Friday lunchtimes. All children are invited to bring their lunch to the hall and watch the semi-finalists perform. Please click here to find out who got through to the semi-final and when they will be dancing. Semi-finalists I have also included some dance tips!
