ESF Celebration of Dance

I am looking forward to attending the ESF Celebration of Dance at West Island School on Friday evening. QBS students will perform in this event and represent our school. Special thanks to Ms Hill who continues to ensure the Expressive Arts at QBS are developed to a high standard in our school.

Trial School Lunch Delivery

During the lunch break on Thursday the QBS Student Voice representatives joined with a group of staff and parents to sample some school lunches delivered by a company called ‘the new Luncher’. The QBS PTA initiated this food sampling and will explore how a regular lunch delivery service may be introduced for students. The students and adults were overwhelmingly positive about the food and the prospect of lunch deliveries in future. Please watch for further details about this possibility for QBS. Thank you to the PTA for taking the initiative to investigate such an option for families at QBS.

Pastoral

This week I attended the screening of a documentary called Angst. It was interesting and highlighted the importance of reading the signs of anxiety and worry in young people. It also provided a very candid insight into the views of young people. Our children are growing up in a complex world which is rapidly changing. As a parent of two daughters, I reflect often about the importance of modelling personal self-awareness, grit and resilience. Angst provided some very good insights into how parents might open up discussions with their children about managing stress, pressure and fears. I would recommend this film to parents if you have the chance to view it in the future.

Each morning I enjoy being at the school gate to greet the students as they arrive at school. It is one of my favourite times of the day. I find out so many interesting things from the students as they arrive at school. During this time I encourage everyone to begin the day positively by greeting each other with a smile and a friendly good morning. Greeting people politely and respectfully is a life skill which reflects well on our children as they grow and mature.

6A Campaigns and Events Group’s action plan

Dear Parents,

As part of the 6A Campaigns and Events Group’s action plan for the Exhibition, from May 2 – 11, we are setting up a toiletries drive for asylum seekers / refugees in Hong Kong. We are aware that refugees aren’t as privileged as we are and we want to help them. They are not allowed to buy these items with their allowance so we would really appreciate it if you could let your child bring in a few (new/unused) toiletries –e.g., toothbrushes, shampoo, soaps, etc. — and put them into the boxes at the end of their hallways.

We are planning to donate these essentials to Christian Action, an organization that helps provide for refugees what they need.

Thank you for your support.

2nd Hand Summer Uniforms

The Summer second hand uniforms are on sale outside the medical room. There are many sizes, so please come have have a browse.

Also please note that we can no longer take any donations at the moment. We do not have any more space to store them.

After School Clubs Supervision – Important Safety Message

There is no playground supervision of children by staff after school finishes.

Students waiting for clubs must have an adult with them, both before the club starts and until it finishes. These students need to be actively supervised by the adult (parent, grandparent, driver or helper).

The adult who is supervising the child must be in the quiet area at the front of the school, and must know the child’s whereabouts at all times.

Students cannot play football, downball or use school sports equipment after school.

If your child does not participate in any after school activity, they are to go home immediately after the end of the school day. Only children in clubs should remain after school and this is going to be monitored in the future. Parents will be contacted if unsupervised children are left at school or supervision is not adequate.

Note: Only students in Year 5 and Year 6 who would normally return home on their own may wait for their club without an adult. They should wait sensibly at the front of school or where their club leader is based.

This is for the safety and well being of your children. Thank you for your support.
