QBS Exhibition

This week the Year 6 students had their very successful QBS Exhibition. The QBS Exhibition is an important annual event for Year 6 students. After six years of working within the Primary Years Programme (PYP) the Year 6 students showcased their learning about human rights. Students focussed on sharing positive stories about refugees in our city and across the world. The Year 6 students did an outstanding job and our community should feel very proud of their achievements this week. The QBS Exhibition is a culmination of significant effort, research, action and creativity by Year 6 students with very thorough and thoughtful support from staff.

QBS prides itself on meaningful relationships with community groups including NGOs in Hong Kong. These relationships were crucial in supporting the Year 6 students to achieve their goals and share a diverse range of positive stories about their learning.

One of the significant achievements by students in their QBS Exhibition was the way students were able to creatively show their learning through music, drama, dance, technology and visual arts. Small group presentations were shared passionately and articulately with parents, visitors and our wider student body.

It has been a very positive week of learning at QBS and one which has made me feel truly proud to be a member of this community.

MinaD2

Sport News

ESF Mixed Tag Rugby Tournament

The tournament was held at Sandy Bay Sports on Wednesday 16th March. There were 20 participating teams, made up of 4 groups of 5.

QBS entered both A and B teams, which meant that all 21 of our squad, had a run out. Considering that so many of our players are relatively new to the game, the levels of performance of both teams, was excellent.

Our B Team were in a tough group with the eventual Cup winners, I.C.H.K., whom we lost to by 5 tries to 1. We then drew with CIS ‘A’ and Glenealy ‘A’ and beat The Peak ‘B’ team 4 – 0; playing some entertaining rugby in the process.

Our ‘A’ Team drew with D.B.I.S., before losing to The Peak ‘A’ team, the eventual Cup runners up.
We then beat Shatin Junior School and Kennedy ‘B’ team to progress to the Bowl competition.
In the semi – final of the Bowl, we beat Shatin Junior School ‘A’ 5 – 1, to enter the final.
In the final, we beat Glenealy ‘A’ 3 – 0, to take the trophy.

Congratulations to all involved, and many thanks to the Kennedy School P.E. Department, who organised an excellent tournament.

QBS Basketball Team

The Q.B.S Basketball Team have recently played in 2 inter-school tournaments at RCHK and KJS. The teams were playing against some talented primary schools from around Hong Kong and learnt quickly from some tough early games, gaining a first win against Discovery College.

At the second tournament the team excelled, finishing 2nd in the group stage to reach the semi-finals to whom they narrowly missed out on a place in the finals by one basket against GSIS. The team have created a really great spirit among themselves which contributed to their success.

A special individual mention to Jason Chan who was selected by Coaches as the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Just As I Am – Tsing Yi Kindergarten Awareness Campaign and Fundraising Drive

Just As I Am builds on the success of our 2015 Down Syndrome Awareness Day, held within the kindergarten and using social media to spread the word. Our kindergarten principal’s daughter has Down Syndrome, and so this cause was very close to our hearts. As a result of our awareness campaign within and beyond the school, 6724 people wore stripy socks to show their support.

As educators who Nathan posteralways strive to develop our practice, our question is always, “What next?” As a kindergarten we aim to foster the IB attitudes of empathy, open-mindedness and respect. Today’s students will be the leaders of the future, and their attitudes will shape the world to come. Just As I Am arose from our desire to build on last year’s successes and to empower our community to make a lasting and meaningful contribution to Hong Kong’s diverse and multi-cultural society.

Action is a focus for our PYP curriculum, and we are very excited to be launching this combined awareness and fundraising campaign that will unite home, school and the wider community. Through the Just As I Am campaign we hope to raise the self-esteem of all our children, whatever their unique needs and capabilities. In addition to curricular and community links, the resulting positive action coming from our children will provide links to our school’s development and strategic plan.

Our campaign will focus on both fund raising and awareness raising, and there will be different events continuing throughout the year.
Within the kindergarten we will be supporting a variety of causes close to oustripy shirt posterr hearts; the focus changing each term.

Just As I Am will launch on 23rd March 2016 with a variety of fund raising activities within the kindergarten, and our focus for this term will be supporting the Little People of Hong Kong, and raising awareness about rare bone diseases causing short stature.

You can show your support by wearing a stripy shirt on 23rd March, and posting a picture to one of our social media pages:
