Looking ahead at QBS
- Friday the 4th of November, 2016 – staff continuous professional development (QBS closed to students)
We have had a great week of Diwali activities going on around the school culminating in a very colourful playground this morning with the children dressed in beautiful outfits and colours. I would like to extend a special thanks to all the teachers that enabled the children to experience dancing, henna, clay and colouring activities throughout lunchtimes this week. A special thanks to our parents who offered help and support. Shilpa Gusain was supporting Bollywood dancing group and Sonia Borthakur and Cecilia Ng who read beautiful stories with the children to help them learn more about the festival.
During the week I have enjoyed being out on camp at Cheung Chau with the Year 4 students from 4S and 4W. The weather was perfect and there were so many occasions during the camp when I felt tremendously proud of the students. They were respectful and caring of peers and energetic when faced with new experiences. It was another successful camp for QBS students. One of my jobs was to give dormitory points to the students during camp and they certainly made the task extremely difficult for me. In all of my years teaching, I have never seen such tidy dormitories on school camp! I had to establish various levels of dormitory points to reward order, planning and tidiness. By the final day of camp, students were eligible for diamond level points for their dormitory teamwork. We had lots of fun at Cheung Chau.
The Year 3 students enjoyed their day trip around Hong Kong this week. Staff value the real life learning the students then bring back into school after such trips. Thank you to all parent helpers involved in this trip – we could not do these journeys without your support.
Thank you to 6A and 6J for their thought provoking assembly about how we can all have a growth mindset.
Please be reminded that next Friday is a professional development day for staff and school is closed for students.

Congratulations to Emerald Ho (5G) and Henry Au Yeung (5Y) for being the first children at QBS to successfully pass all of their Karate Recorder belts! Be warned they are black belts, armed with their recorders, dangerous and ready to play you a tune!
Look out for the Elite Year 5 Recorder players at the Christmas Fair; they are looking forward to entertaining you!
Year 1 and 2 QBS Parent Reading Presentation
We will be running a Year 1 and 2 Reading Workshop for parents on Thursday 3rd November 8:30-9:15 am, in the QBS Hall. This will be a very similar session to what we ran last year for Y1 parents around early reading development and how you can support your child with reading at home. If you missed this last year and would like to join you are more than welcome to attend.
Please click here to fill in the Google form if you would like to attend the workshop to help us know numbers.
We look forward to welcoming you to QBS.
