CIS Accreditation Visit – March 20th – 23rd 2018
Later this month, we will be hosting visitors from the Council of International Schools (CIS), who will be visiting QBS as part of our re-accreditation process. CIS is a global non-profit organisation that supports schools in providing high-quality international education. ESF schools are visited on a 5 yearly cycle, with evaluators supporting schools in self-assessment, and sharing advice on school improvement. Our upcoming visit is a preparatory evaluation visit, which will be followed by a self study period, then a full team evaluation in Autumn 2019.
The visit will take place over four days, from Tuesday 20th March to Friday 23rd March 2018, and will involve CIS visitors meeting with QBS students, staff, and parents, as well as members of the school council. The evaluators will spend time around the school, visiting classrooms as well as reviewing policies and procedures, in order to get a full picture of school life at QBS. Further information about the visit, and the CIS accreditation process, will be shared in later newsletters. Please contact us should you have any questions.
Parent Teacher Consultations
The consultations will continue next Tuesday after school hours. We hope that all parents have made appointments to meet teachers because these meetings will focus on sharing next step learning targets in key areas of learning. If you have not made an appointment, please contact your child’s teacher.
Mini SmartWatches
I have observed more of these types of watches being worn to school by younger children – please see the picture below. Whilst a novel introduction to a smartwatch, I am concerned that these watches are being played with and are a distraction to the children wearing them. I will monitor the levels of distraction these watches are causing over the next few weeks. If these watches are hindering learning in the classroom, students will not be permitted to wear them to school.
QBS Basketball Team
The QBS basketball team played in an inter-school tournament at Renaissance College last Friday and were very unlucky to just miss out on a place in the semi finals after some great performances and victories over Kennedy, SIS and Beacon Hill School.

South Africa Mobile Library Project – Thank You
Dear Parents,
Student voice would like to thank all the parents and children who participated in the recent QBS book drive. We appreciate your generosity. We have collected 6 large boxes of amazing books. We feel very proud of our collective effort. We will be sending these books to the schools in Africa and are sure that the children over there will appreciate and benefit from this action we have taken.
Regards,
Student Voice
Digital Citizenship – Screen Time
The makers of “Screenagers” report on a video shown on “Good Morning America” which shows what happens when a couple allows their four children ages 6 to 11 to have as much screen time as they want for 48 hours.
Click here to watch what happens when kids have no screen time rules.
Race the Runway Event
We have so many children who love to run at QBS. Race the runway is an excellent opportunity for children to run 1KM or 3KM.
We hope to see you there.
Year 5 and 6 Sports Day
The Year 5 and 6 Sports Day will take place at Q.B.S and the Braemar Hill Sports Field from 8:30 am – 1:00 pm on March 21st.
