2018/2019 QBS/ESF Calendar
Please disregard the previously shared 2018/2019 QBS/ESF Calendar – it has changed. An additional public holiday has been gazetted by the HK Government (13 May, 2019) and a CPD day has been removed (1 February, 2019).
The revised QBS/ESF calendar for the 2018/2019 school year can be viewed here.
The weather is extremely hot and students are required to wear a hat daily at QBS. Please support this by ensuring your child has their school hat packed each day. QBS has a ‘no hat no play’ expectation.
Year 3 went to Shek O Beach this week and did a clean up as part of their unit of inquiry. Following the visit the students calculated a collection of over 3000 pieces of small plastic and rubbish on the beach. The students were disappointed by this amount of rubbish and hope their action might inspire others to think about doing the right thing in our environment. The students were pleased to hear that members of the Shek O community had noticed the impact of the beach clean up and appreciated the effort by QBS.
Year 5 students had a very successful museum day this week. We were pleased to welcome so many parents in for this event. The students have been researching how ancient civilisations influence the present. The range of research and depth of learning was very apparent to all of the visitors.
The week ended with a fun assembly by 1J and 1M. The Year 1 students enjoyed their performance. Thank you for the positive parental support – the students were delighted to have parents in school for the assembly.
We have been alerted to a potentially dangerous photo/video Iphone App called “Tik Tok”. This app has recently become very popular in Hong Kong and elsewhere in Asia. Whilst users should be 16 years plus, a South China Morning post survey has found it being used by primary school students. This photo/video app allows children to publicly share identifiable personal information and sometimes inappropriate videos and photographs of themselves with strangers.
Please see the link to the article below for more information.

QBS Year Book
The winner is ….
We are very happy to announce that Amishi 2F and Yurino 5A have been chosen to be the front and back covers for the year book for 2017-18. It was very difficult to decide which entry to pick as we had so many lovely colourful designs to choose from. Thank you to everyone who entered the competition this year and we hope you like our choice.

An email has been sent out to parents. Please click here for details and placing order. The deadline is Friday 15th June.
Mosquito Control at QBS
The safety of the children at QBS is our highest priority. We recognise that particularly during the summer months in Hong Kong, mosquito bites can be a problem, and we are working to address this.
In consultation with the ESF facilities and health and safety teams, we have commenced a treatment programme designed to minimise the impact of mosquitos on our school community. We are confident this will have a positive impact, and will be monitoring the effectiveness of the programme going forward.
QBS Green Team ‘Zero Plastic Break & Lunch Day’
In support of the CNN’s ‘Global Zero Plastic initiative,’ on Friday 8th June, we are encouraging all of the children at QBS to avoid bringing ‘single use plastics’ for their snack at break time, and their lunch, on that day. It is fine to bring ‘multiple use’ plastic containers.
This could also be an opportunity to encourage children to bring in a healthy snack, rather than crisps and chips, which tend to come in ‘one use’ plastic bags.
The Green Team will be speaking to all of the students about the initiative, in next Friday’s Phase Assemblies.
Information regarding the damage caused by plastics will be posted on Qoodle next week.
