QBS Mid Autumn Lantern Walk

Thank you to all families for joining the QBS lantern walk. It was a lovely school community evening and the children enjoyed it immensely. The ribbon sticks were a popular choice this year and the children were so happy to be able to play with these during the evening. Thank you for the superb efforts by the Mandarin Team and PTA volunteers. The event would not have been a success without this group of people making it happen for students and families.

QBS on Facebook

We have been reviewing the way we share our school’s learning on social media following changes in the policies of Twitter and Facebook. As a result, we will use the QBS Facebook page as our main social media platform and will stop posting on Twitter and Google Blogger from this week.

If you you haven’t done so already, you can follow QBS learning at https://www.facebook.com/QBSchool

We hope parents enjoy taking a peek into daily learning and life at QBS via this social media platform.

New Staff

Ms Charlotte Chan and Ms Matilda Ng have both joined QBS in recent weeks. Ms Chan is the School Nurse and Ms Ng is the Admissions Secretary. Both of these new staff have prepared introductions for parents.

Ms Charlotte Chan – School Nurse
A nurse is a job to do with love. It is a very fulfilling career for me and I just love it. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to support the children and the teachers at this great school. Before I started working at QBS, I worked at hospital, clinic and nursing home for five years. This is my first time as a school nurse so it may take a little time to get to know this special setting. I believe I will enjoy the work here. In my spare time, I enjoy my family and travelling. I have two small children, they are my superstars and I am their supermum. Thank you for welcoming me QBS and I look forward to meeting you all. Thank you!

Mr Matilda Ng – Admissions Secretary
I am so glad to be a team member of Quarry Bay School. I love being in education – a place full of happiness, providing opportunities to help improve the lives of others, and to have a positive and sustaining impact on everyone in the school. Before joining QBS, I was working in the Operations Team of an English Learning Centre for 8 years. With my working experience, I believe I would be a good fit for admission secretary. Do let me know if I can be of any help.

Thanks for this opportunity, feel free to pop into the Reception and say hello. I look forward to meeting you soon!

Sporting Achievement

Recently Miss Jenny Barbour (6B class teacher) was invited to compete in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in South Africa. Congratulations to Miss Barbour for achieving this personal goal and succeeding in the competition. It is great to see teaching staff modelling determination, bravery and effort to the students. The students were very interested to hear about Miss Barbour’s competition and the hard work she put into achieving success. Please read about Miss Barbour’s recent experience in the world championships below:

On September 1st-2nd I took on an exciting and daunting challenge as I flew to South Africa to take part in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. It was the result of a year and a half of hard work and determination, starting as a newcomer to triathlon. The World Championships bring together the best professional and amateur triathletes from around the world, who have done well enough at other Ironman races to qualify. I won my race in Jeju, Korea and jumped at the chance to take part. It was a challenging course, with a very windy bike leg so I definitely found myself repeating our QBS phrase- ‘don’t quit, get grit’! But what an inspiring experience to race alongside, and watch the best athletes in the world. I was incredibly proud to come 60th in the world in my category. Thank you Quarry Bay School for your support and encouragement!

Jenny Barbour (6B)
